Graduation Requirements - Class of 2020 and beyond
43 credits including:
- 8 in English
- 7 in Social
- 6 in Math (must earn 2 credits in Algebra 2 and 2 credits in Geometry)
- 6 in Science (Must earn 2 credits in Biology and 2 credits in Chem or Physics. For students who start 9th grade during 24-25 school year and beyond; 2 credits in Earth Science is a requirement.)
- 2 in Fine Arts
- 1 in Health
- 1 in Physical Education
- 1 in Personal Finance (This goes into effect for students who start 9th grade during 24-25 school year and beyond)
Class of 2020 and beyond: For graduation, juniors ONLY are required to be given the opportunity to take the ACT test provided by the school district. Each year at Zimmerman, the juniors will meet this requirement as long as we continue to offer the ACT test in April during the school day.

Schedule and Credits Zimmerman High School operates on a semester schedule of six 55 minute periods. Credits are earned at the end of each semester. A semester class is equal to one credit. The maximum number of credits that can be earned per year is twelve. Grading Scale Grades that students earn in their courses are used to calculate their overall Grade Point Average (GPA). To calculate GPA, grades are assigned Honor Points based on a 4.00 scale. Advanced Placement (AP) and concurrent enrollment courses have a high level of difficulty. The grade in one of these courses is awarded more honor points than the same grade in a regular class. For instance, the chart below shows that the highest grade in a regular class is a grade “A” and 4.0 honor points are granted. However, in a class which assigns weighted grading, the highest grade of “A” grants 4.34 honor points. |

| HONOR ROLL
An Honor Roll will be determined each semester according to the following guidelines: "A" Honor Roll requires a semester GPA of 3.51 and above. "B" Honor Roll requires a semester GPA of 3.00-3.50. Students must be enrolled as a full-time student. Generally, this is 5 credits per semester. Students may not have an F or I on their report card. They may also have only one "P" per semester. Incomplete Grades A semester grade of "I" means that all the requirements for credit have not been met, but that the student still has the opportunity to complete the remaining work in order to receive credit. The student will have 10 days after semester grades are posted, or such time as determined by the teacher and student to be appropriate, for completion. Special Programs AP Program (Advanced Placement) - We offer classes in English Literature & Composition 11 and 12, Human Geography, U.S. History, World History, Physics, Biology, Statistics, and Calculus. Students will complete the class and take an AP exam at the end of the school year to determine whether they qualify for college credit(s). College in the Schools - We offer classes in Spanish, German, Psychology, Sociology, Economics, Algebra, and Pre-Calculus. Students will complete the class and take the Accuplacer to determine whether they qualify for college credit(s) for the course. Biomedical Program - This program, started in Fall 2014, gives students the opportunity to receive college credit for Principles of Biomedical Sciences, Human Body Systems, and Medical Interventions. Online 728 - Students are able to take classes online for part or all of the school day. Go to online728.org for more information about this program. AVID - A program that is designed to support students and better prepare them to be ready to go to college, AVID students are given the opportunity to work on different skills to help them become better students. |
